EXW → DDP at a glance

Input Parameters

Air bills on the higher of gross / volumetric weight (1 CBM = 167 kg); sea LCL bills at a 1 CBM minimum

Model Notes

  • Duty base = goods value + international freight + insurance (CIF Value)
  • VAT / sales tax base = CIF Value + Duty
  • Insurance = 0.3% of goods value (CIF practice; buyer arranges under FOB/EXW)
  • Air chargeable weight = max(gross, volumetric); sea LCL minimum 1 CBM
  • Duty rates are HS-2 (chapter-level) simplified estimates for quoting only — actual rates depend on the 10-digit HTS and origin; always confirm with customs

DDP = the seller bears all import duties & taxes — the highest quote but the best customer experience (duty paid to door). EXW = the buyer handles all logistics & customs — the most risk but the lowest goods price. The table follows "seller quote = goods value + seller-borne costs + applicable taxes"; the landed total is slightly higher under CIF/DDP because insurance enters the tax base.

What is Landed Cost?

Landed cost is the total cost of moving goods from the exporter’s factory to the importer’s designated location — including goods value, domestic logistics, international freight, insurance, import duty, VAT/sales tax and destination port charges. Accurately estimating landed cost is the basis of cross-border procurement, quoting and pricing decisions, avoiding “cheap at first sight, loss-making at arrival”.

Key variables that affect landed cost: the HS code and applicable duty, the destination VAT rate, the transport mode (different billing basis for sea/air/express) and the cost-bearing boundary agreed under the trade term (Incoterms 2020).
